Care tips for your JAGUAR scissors
Care, oiling, checking tension: here you will find the most important steps for professional hairdressing scissors.
So that your scissors remain as they are intended.
Professional hairdressing scissors are precision tools. To ensure that they cut cleanly, run smoothly, and feel secure in everyday salon use, they need regular care—not much, but the right kind.
Here we show you the most important steps from manufacturing practice—clear, understandable, and to the point.
Why scissor care is so important
Hair, moisture, styling products, and movement constantly affect your scissors during daily use. Without proper care, the cutting edge and action can lose their precision. With just a few simple routines, you can ensure that your JAGUAR hairdressing scissors work with precision—cut after cut, day after day.
Cleaning & oiling – the basis of all care
After use, you should remove any hair and residue from your JAGUAR hairdressing scissors—especially around the screw and the joint. A soft, dry cloth is usually sufficient for everyday salon use. If necessary, you can use a mild cleaning agent, then dry thoroughly.
Oiling is also part of maintenance, but does not need to be done after every use. One drop of JAGUAR maintenance oil on the screw is sufficient as soon as the mechanism feels dry or after prolonged use. Open and close the scissors a few times to distribute the oil evenly. This will keep the movement smooth and supple.

Check smoothness & adjust scissor tension
Every pair of JAGUAR hairdressing scissors is precisely adjusted and tested in our factory. The cutting edge, action, and tension are adjusted at the factory so that you can work cleanly and with control right away. No immediate readjustment is necessary.
However, in everyday professional salon life, it may be advisable to check the smoothness of movement from time to time due to intensive use, individual cutting techniques, or changes in cutting behavior.
-
How to check the mobility.
Hold the handle firmly with your thumb (1) and let the blade slide downwards in a controlled and smooth motion (2).
The movement should be smooth— without sagging and without noticeable resistance.
-
Too tight?
If the movement feels heavy or jerky, the tension is too high.
Turn the adjustment screw slightly counterclockwise (about 3–4 minutes on the dial). Check the cutting feel again after each small adjustment. -
Too loose?
If the scissors close very easily or if the hair tends to slip rather than being cut cleanly, the tension is too low.
The blades are not gripping optimally. Carefully turn the adjusting screw clockwise until the cut is secure and controlled again. -
Optimal
You feel a slight, even resistance. The scissors move smoothly, grip the hair cleanly, and remain stable even during rapid cutting sequences.
The scissors are optimally adjusted when they close evenly, the thumb eyes do not touch each other, and a gap of about 1–2 cm remains.
Precisely adjusted – individually adjustable
Every hand works differently. Cutting technique, speed, and personal cutting style vary from hairdresser to hairdresser. That's why JAGUAR hairdressing scissors are designed so that the tension can be adjusted finely and precisely —without losing the factory default setting.
Regardless of the system, the goal is always smooth, even movement, secure control during cutting, and a cutting feel that remains consistent even during long working days.
Our screw connection systems at a glance
SMART SPIN (Silver Line, Gold Line Black Line)
A flat, high-end screw system with infinitely variable fine adjustment. It enables extremely light, precise movement and is particularly suitable for demanding techniques and hairdressers who want to fine-tune their cutting feel.
SMART CLICK (White Line JAGUART)
This screw system offers audible and tactile click adjustment. The tension can be adjusted reproducibly—ideal for everyday salon use when clear, controlled adjustment is required.
VARIO (Pre-Style series)
The classic screw system with adjustment wrench. Simple, reliable, and direct —for hairdressers who prefer uncomplicated adjustment.
Practical tip
After readjustment, the cutting feel may change slightly at first. Give the scissors some time—often, the optimal tension will settle on its own after a few cuts.
If you are unsure or need to readjust frequently, professional maintenance is the better solution. This will keep your scissors precise, balanced, and reliable in the long term.
When care is no longer enough – we are here for you
Even with the best care, scissors wear out over time. If they no longer cut cleanly despite cleaning, oiling, and correct tension, professional maintenance is recommended.
Our JAGUAR grinding and maintenance service restores balance to the cutting edge, gear, and tension—directly at the manufacturer, using original components and experience from our own production.
