Where it all began

Solingen more than just a place. It is the home of blades—and has been synonymous with precision and craftsmanship for generations.

This is where Kurt Schmidt founded the steel goods company Kurt Schmidt KG in 1932. From the outset, the focus was not on manufacturing tools, but on building trust in tools that had to stand up to everyday use.

The company continued to grow with the arrival of his sons Frank, Hardy, and Kurt Schmidt Jr. In 1967, the name JAGUAR was created for hairdressing scissors—chosen for its dynamism, precision, and clear international appeal. A few years later, JAGUAR became the company name.

In 1974, Hardy Schmidt took over the management of the company. The mission remained the same: to preserve craftsmanship, continue to develop quality, and provide hairdressers with tools they can rely on. These origins continue to shape JAGUAR to this day.

Because true craftsmanship does not begin with the scissors—it begins with the attitude behind them.

JAGUAR Scissors Production

Growing means taking responsibility

As JAGUAR grew, so did its responsibility—for quality, for craftsmanship, and for the people who work with our scissors every day.

In 1988, Frank and Kurt Schmidt sold their shares in the company to Zwilling J.A. Henckels, based in Solingen. JAGUAR remained true to its principles: Hardy Schmidt continued to run the company as managing partner, ensuring continuity in craftsmanship and quality.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels has been the sole owner of JAGUAR since 2004. In 2007, TONDEO, another traditional scissors manufacturer from Solingen , was Solingen . At the end of 2011, the production of both brands was merged.

What has never changed is the standard: growth must not alter the tool. It must continue to feel precise, work reliably, and give the hairdresser confidence in their everyday work.

What our history means today

The merger of JAGUAR and TONDEO in 2013 led to the creation of United Salon Technologies GmbH —a separate division within Wilhelm Werhahn KG and a subsidiary of Zwilling AG.

For JAGUAR, this structure means one thing above all else: concentrated expertise. Development, production, and quality assurance have been deliberately brought together—with a clear focus on professional hairdressing tools.

At the Solingen , around 200 employees work in our own production facility. Every day, up to 2,000 hairdressing scissors are produced here – precision-manufactured, individually tested, and made for everyday use in salons.

Since May 2021, United Salon Technologies GmbH has been part of CERTINA HOLDING AG. JAGUAR Solingen now part of a strong corporate structure—yet remains what it always was: a manufacturer of hairdressing scissors that takes craftsmanship, precision, and responsibility seriously.

JAGUAR Scissors Quality

The common thread to this day.

An international brand has emerged from artisanal roots. Today, JAGUAR Solingen for high-quality hairdressing tools, characterized by innovative strength, technical advancement, and numerous patents and property rights.

Professionals in over 80 countries worldwide work with JAGUAR products every day. In addition to hairdressing scissors and razors, the range now also includes brushes, combs, and electrical appliances—developed for professional use in salons.

What has never changed is the company's commitment to creating tools that work reliably, feel precise, and support hairdressers in their everyday work.

JAGUAR Solingen thus combines JAGUAR Solingen with the future—and craftsmanship with innovation.
